I’ve enjoyed several many of Ms. Bishop’s works and Guilty Pleasures was certainly no exception.

If you’re tired of contrived tension that mostly makes characters look stupid, you’ll appreciate Ms. Bishop’s open, heartfelt character portrayals.
The sexual scenes were incredibly hot and vivacious… another trademark of this author’s style.

I strongly recommend Guilty Pleasures as an easy, and thoroughly entertaining, read.

American mothers story of Sarajevo

The personal story of a mother from Tampa Florida who goes to Sarajevo (and in some instances stays for quite some time) quite a few times both during and after the war. The story told of her journey's and charitable work within Sarajevo. The book also documents an important time in history that many in the US know little about. I was in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Croatia for a month shortly after the war and spent a lot of that time meeting people and listening to their stories. This book is an accurate reflection of the stories I heard and is an important part of history. I am glad it was written. We need more stories about Sarajevo out there...

The Siege of Sarajevo Made Simple

Superb. Written in an easy, contained flow. Tells its story with astounding emotion without being hobbled by overwrought prose or intention. Because of its clean, earnest writing, it's astonishing what this woman captures. Everyone wishes to understand what happened in Bosnia, where to even begin reading. This book is really all one needs. Write and read all the political books in the world, the story of the 90s war in Bosnia boils down to this simple, straightforward narrative. While so-called political leaders and the international community wrung their wrists, and news media ran in circles like confused little children, Sarajevans burned, emotionally and physically, and this one woman got on a plane and brought what assistance she could. It's that simple. And that bizarre a story.

A Good History Book

Well, that's what it is: a history book, written by a historian for historians and their students. More and more history books are being written by historians for lay readers; a wonderful turn I think. But this book isn't one of them. Even so, it is a well done work on a somewhat arcane subject with a substantial level of depth. It is an older book, and along with its depth comes an older scholarly assumption on the writer's part. There's a lot of "we" implied and supplied -- meaning the author and the reader -- and the reader is presumed to be scholarly, as of course is the writer. Can an ordinary reader -- someone, say, who devours mystery and suspense -- enjoy this book? Emphatically, yes!: if you are really interested in the Babylonians and Assyrians (a.k.a. Iraq and Iran) and wonder occasionally why Iraq and Iran are so self congratulatory about their land, their people, and their history. But it's a slow read and requires both interest and stamina from its readers.

Good amount of information but confusing

I bought this book in hope of getting complete big picture about the history of Babylonians and link our heritage since the dawn of civilization. The book contains valuable information and good amount of knowledge but, unfortunately - at least for me- it is confusing as it does not have logical organization for the beginner readers.

Talking about cities and kings without proper introduction makes the reader lost sometimes. I think this book suits the people who already have background knowledge about the subject.

This is an excellent history in outline from a very complex period in the development of civilization in the Fertile Crescent. Even in its abbreviated form, it shows the numerous powers extant in this period which shaped the civilizations which were constantly in the process of rising and falling.

Great book from a great thinker

Wycliffe is (was) one of the premiere thinkers of Western Civilization. It is too bad that more people do not read him due to him being a dead white man. If more people would read books from the great thinkers and philosophers of the past, many of the issues of today (that they discuss but from their day) could be talked about in a logical discussion instead of the trash talking school yard bullying that is passed off as "intellectual discourse" today.
