An EXPECTED pleasure to read

This book was wonderful.

As I was hopeful would be the case, this series is continued with the story of Sophie Broadmoor. The spunkiest of the cousins, she is constantly rebelling against her family and social norms. Since her mother's passing (a year earlier) and a father buried in grief, she has gotten worse and is able to get away with it.

This story follows the girls as they travel abroad to England. Here, Sophie falls in love with the older, sophisticated Wesley Hedrick. He travels back to America with them and things blossom.

That is really only a portion of the story. In this book we also continue catching tidbits of Fanny's tale (who is still waiting for Michael and thwarting advances created by her uncles scheming). We get to know Amanda a little better (prepare for her story in the next installment!) and really get to know Paul, the man who Sophie clashed with in the previous book.

There is much going on in this book-- alot of stories to follow. It is not an adventure but a saga all its own. Characters are WONDERFUL!!! Realistic, relatable and well developed. I truly enjoyed this book. I am eager to read the next book!!

Judith Miller is one of my favorite writers and she did not disappoint me with this book. The title, "Unexpected Love," reflected the ending of the book. The book does not end the way I expected; it was better. Now, I can't wait to read the final book in the series to see how all of the stories end.

If you are looking for a story of faith, love, forgiveness, and deception, this is the book for you. As with Ms. Miller's other books, it is easy to read and entertaining. It is Christian fiction, but it is a book that everyone can read.

Buy it. You will enjoy it.

I don't really like a book that doesn't have an ending. If you read book 2 you have to read book 3 to find out what happens.

I loved the journey!

Falconer's Quest probably will be the final story in this saga. I wish that it would have ended more decisively, but that is a personal view. I loved traveling with through the many twists and turns that start almost immediately. One more book would be great, to wrap up some things and to see where Matt's life choices take him.

terrific exciting high seas adventure thriller

In the 1830s in Salem though he mourns his loss John Falconer tries to move on following the death of his beloved wife of eighteen months Ada so that he can be there for her son Matt whom he promised to raise as his own. Already tight as a father and son though not the lad's natural sire, John and just turned ten Matt become even closer than most biological parents are with their children as they turn to one another for comfort.

didn't want the story to end

Even though this was the last book in this series, I did not want it to end. This character of John Falconer was someone you would have hoped to know in real life. Strong but humble, a true man of a God. One who had to face his failures and come out fighting. Who faced sadness but experienced Gods joy through trust. Thank you for a great story !

In a promising start to a new historical series, Pella (Blind Faith, Bethany, 1996) and Peterson (Entangled, Bethany, 1997) deliver an entertaining story with a dynamic female lead character. Carolina Adams is 15 years old in 1835, and the life of a typical woman in the South is not what she wants. She has become entranced with the new railroad, as is her tutor, James Baldwin. The two are attracted, but James bows to his family's wishes and becomes engaged to Carolina's older sister. When James breaks off the engagement to follow the railroad westward, Carolina puts their relationship in the hands of God. The ending does leave readers hanging, so expect a demand for the sequels.

One of the best series I have read

I read Ribbons West before I knew there was Ribbons of Steel. This first book has explained some things that were a little puzzling to me in the first series. I like the name Carolina Adams. I just call her Carolyn. I have thoroughly enjoyed what I have read so far and expect the rest of this book and book 2 and book 3 to be even better. In Ribbons West that Jordana did take after her mother Carolina. Like them depending on their Bible, I read from my Bible each day and my devotional. I read Distant Dreams before I go to bed.

Enjoyable read but just the start of a series

From the very first page of the book I felt like I was really in another time. So if you love historical novels, do not hesitate, you will really feel the time of first railroads being built in America, you will get the feel of political context, of social relations, and in the middle of all of that you will find lovable characters.

Carolina is a young lady eager to study more "masculine" subjects and develops a passionate interest for railroads. Her mother doesn't approve of such interests, as they are not considered ladylike and proper.
However, her father decides to support her wishes and finds her a private tutor, James, who is courting her sister Victoria and recovering from his railroad accident.

It takes time until Carolina admits to herself the feelings she is developing for James, feelings that put her in difficult situations because James is always somewhere near her, but forbiden, as the whole society expects his marriage to Victoria.

I liked many of the characters in the book, not just the main ones, I liked the pace of getting to know them, I liked the way the story developed and how it gave me an insight into the 19th century society.

What I didn't like is that, even though the book is quite long, it is just the first part of the story, and the one that doesn't resolve the situation between the heroine and the hero. I like to see a closure at the end of the book so if you are like me, just have this in mind so you are not disappointed.

If you don't mind reading series in sequels, and you enjoy historical fiction, you will find this book to be the start of many hours of an enjoyable read.

Totally left hanging with little resolution except an acceptance of God which took barely a paragraph. Very little work up to that even!

Title should have been the history of the B&O railroad and the politics around it amidst a little unresolved romance.

Surprised to find the series jump a few years.

I still enjoyed this book even though the author threw me for a loop and jumped the story a few years. I liked the newly added characters and the story blends well with the previous plots.
