About the Author
Richard Beebe, MS, BSN, NREMT-P is the program director for Bassett Health Care's Center for Rural Emergency Medical Services Education in Cooperstown, New York. He is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the State University of New York at Cobleskill, New York. Richard Beebe is also a practicing field Paramedic with the Guilderland Police Department, since 1988. Richard Beebe has a Masters degree in education, is a registered Nurse and a nationally registered Paramedic. Richard Beebe has been an EMS educator for over two decades and is a chapter member of the National Association of EMS Educators. Mr. Beebe is a state and national speaker, author or editor of several textbooks, and has been recently working in a leadership role on the committee for the National EMS Education Standards of the National Association of EMS Educators.
Dr. Myers has a 20 year background in Emergency Services with 12 years active in the prehospital environment and 18 years as an EMS educator. He started in EMS in 1988 in the Capital District of upstate New York volunteering for his college ambulance and a local community ambulance. He began teaching in 1990 and ran the EMT-Basic course in Rensselaer County for three years before leaving to attend medical school. He also served as a Deputy County EMS Coordinator for four years responding to multi-ambulance and multi-agency incidents and worked in a combination paid-volunteer department as a paramedic. Dr. Myers attended medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. While in medical school, he continued to teach. He completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at SUNY-Buffalo, serving as Chief Resident in his final year of residency. He stayed at SUNY-Buffalo for a two year EMS Fellowship and completed a Masters in Education at the University of Buffalo. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Myers is currently on faculty at SUNY-Buffalo and serves as the Associate System EMS Medical Director and EMS Fellowship Director at the Erie County Medical Center. Dr. Myers is an active member of the physician response team. He is also the assistant medical director for Rural Metro Medical Services of Western New York, based out of Buffalo, NY. He is an author for Delmar Cengage Learning, writing Automated Defibrillation for Professional and Lay Rescuers, Principles of Pathophysiology and Emergency Care, and Techniques in Airway Management DVD series.

Not Special

When I opened this book initially I thought it was an average EMS book. After spending countless hours trying to absorb it's contents I have come across many type-o's, and several tid bits of contrary information. As with any type of constructive criticism I want to give specifics, I think the book needs to be edited again, and in regards to the evaluation, assessment, and treatment sections they need to articulate more effectively step by step pharmacological treatments (name, dose, indications, considerations etc...) by implementing a different format so the reader can absorb the information more effectively. I noticed treatment dosages are scattered around the paragraphs. Just K.I.S.S. I have all 3 volumes, and as I'm reading Trauma Care and EMS Operations Volume III I can share an example of my criticism...I just read about Flail Chest, Pelvic Fractures, and Spine Injury. In the Treatment sections the author only talks about considering analgesia. It doesn't state what type of pharmacologic analgesic I should consider...I.e Ketamine at a predissociative dose, Fentanyl, Toradol, or Morphine....I mean how am I supposed to step foot in the real world and be prepared after reading this book, when I can't have some preliminary understanding as to what I want to give for these clinical presentations when the book I read just broadly tells me, "to consider an analgesic". Not everything is treated with Vancomycin.

Best prehospital book!

This is by far the most comprehensive and user friendly textbook I have read. It is up to date with current medicine and trends in pre-hospital care. A considerable learning tool that casts a shadow over other books. Definitely worth it!
