Dear Readers,
I loved being a journalist with a passion second only to how much I love my husband. I lived and breathed my work to the point that a good friend once told me her husband never knew how to talk to me "because he says you only talk about work. I had to explain to him that that's really all you do." It didn't even occur to me to be bothered by that, because it was true, and I was happy with my life. I loved the people I dealt with (well, not the rapists and the murderers so much as the victims, but you get the idea), and I worked hard to tell their stories right.
Aside from that, at the end of every day I got to take my notes back to the newsroom and write. And I got paid for it. I pinched myself a lot.
Then I got pregnant, and some quick math (I'm not good at math, but I was good enough to see this) told me I was going to have my baby and never see her. So I quit. My boss told me I wouldn't stay away. "You love it too much. You'll be back," he said.
Turns out, he was both right and wrong. As a mom, I have no desire to go back to the newsroom. Covering crime is hard, and emotionally draining when you care so much. Ironic that the very thing that made me love reporting so much, the people, is the thing that means I can't do it anymore.
But I did miss the writing. I didn't realize how much until this sassy reporter in heels popped into my head and wouldn't leave me alone, and I started writing her story. I loved it. I breathed and dreamed it to the point that I finished a rough draft in five weeks. My husband gently asked me to slow my pace, but said he would never ask me to give it up, because "something about it lights you up like nothing else."
The past year has been a living dream. Seeing my cover on a bestseller list with one of my idols, hearing from and meeting so many of you--it's truly fantastic. Y'all are amazing. I am so, so thankful for every one of you, and I can't tell you how much it makes me smile that Nichelle and her friends can make you laugh, or keep you up late, or give you an escape for a few hours.
Thank y'all for reading. I love Nichelle, her friends, and her world, and have many more of her stories to tell. I hope y'all will continue to enjoy the ride.
About the Author
LynDee Walker grew up in the land of stifling heat and amazing food most people call Texas, and wanted to be Lois Lane from the time she could say the words "press conference." An award-winning journalist, she traded cops and deadlines for burp cloths and onesies when her oldest child was born. Writing the Headlines in Heels mysteries gives her the best of both worlds. When not writing or reading, LynDee is usually wrangling children, eating barbecue or enchiladas, or trying to walk off said barbecue and enchiladas. She and her family live in Richmond, Virginia.

This just in...Front Page Fatality is a great read!

Shoe lover and ace reporter, Nichelle Clarke, has a dream--to work for the Washington Post. Until then, she's doing time at the Richmond Telegraph. When she discovers a drug-related murder that seems like a more like a vigilante killing, Nichelle simply follows the trail.
Suddenly, an ex-baseball player and the sports columnist for the paper, Parker, takes notice of Nichelle. But when he turns up at the river where two law enforcement officers die in a police boat accident, she wonders if his interest is personal or business. As Nichelle keeps investigating the story, she discovers there's something strange about the boat incident. Not knowing whom to trust, she confides in her soft-hearted editor and mentor, Bob. But soon dire circumstances make it impossible to rely on anyone but herself.
As she digs deeper, Nichelle links the stories together and finds herself in hot water with a sexy Mafia boss, in competition with her newsroom rival, and uncovers evidence that could very well cost Nichelle her life.
I loved this book and Nichelle. She's a funny, likable, well-rounded heroine who's tenacious and smart. She was a real person, with faults and hopes and humor. I enjoyed getting to know her. The secondary characters popped right off the page. And I never saw the end coming! It was a great mystery and I can't wait to read the next Nichelle Clarke book.

What a great book! Non-stop twists and turns, just a fun ride! I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I am looking forward to more books from LynDee Walker, as I want to see what happens to Nichelle next.

Spunky, witty, and smart reporter Nichelle Clarke is chasing the story of a lifetime, but will it be her last?
Front Page Fatality was an edge-of-your-seat mystery that kept me guessing until the end. A rich and varied cast of characters compliments the heroine, who risks everything to solve the puzzle and get the scoop, all while wearing fabulous shoes. I enjoyed every minute of the story all the way to the jaw dropping conclusion!
