She was created for a purpose so revolutionary, someone was willing to kill for it.
Seventeen-year-old Lexi Matthews keeps two secrets from her elite boarding school classmates—she’s the daughter of a famous and controversial geneticist, and she can influence people’s thoughts.
But after new student Jack DeWeese heals her broken arm with an anything-but-simple touch, he forces Lexi to face a new reality—her abilities reach much further than speaking to the minds of others.
After Lexi’s father goes missing and she receives threatening emails, she can’t decide whether to fall into Jack’s arms or run and hide.
As Lexi seeks answers to what she and Jack are, she discovers a truth more unsettling than anything her science books can teach. And letting Jack into her life of secrets is not only a threat to her very existence, but it just might break her heart wide open.

About the Author
Heather Sunseri was raised on a tiny farm in one of the smallest towns in thoroughbred horse country near Lexington, Kentucky. After high school, she attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and later graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in accounting. Always torn between a passion for fantasy and a mind for the rational, it only made sense to combine her career in accounting with a novel-writing dream. Heather now lives in a different small town on the other side of Lexington with her two children, and her husband, Mike, the biggest Oregon Duck fan in the universe. When she’s not writing or working as a CPA, she spends her time tormenting her daughter’s cat, Olivia, and loving on her son’s Golden Retriever, Jenny. MINDSPEAK is her first published novel.

Hidden Gem
By Raymond V. Vogel
Now this is more like it! I've been trying to compare Minutes Before Sunset (Timely Death) and other great YA books. And I definitely place Mindspeak in the same echelon. Very well done, Ms. Sunseri. I also just posted a review for Feudlings (Fate on Fire), which I didn't find nearly as well-written unfortunately.
As a male reader and professional writer, I'm looking for much more than teenage drama. And this book delivers. PERHAPS it could have done with a bit less of a cliffhanger to keep the book more as a standalone entity, but it's not so bad that it takes away from the enjoyment of the book.
Highly recommend - to readers of all ages.

The Next Big Thing in YA Books.
By Amazon Customer
This author is way under-rated. The book was interesting and well-written for the most part. A lot better than some of the YA books I've read lately. Only time will tell if this series will shine, but the first book was great. I felt like it was a new take on an old idea. This is what I felt like 'Allegiant' should have been - gene manipulation - except the focus stayed on the characters like it should. If this book doesn't get huge soon, I will be surprised.

This was not exciting, not even a little
By Kelli
I can't read the second book because I can't stand the boredom.
Spoilers****************
It starts out okay. Lexi is on the swim team. She knows she has some powers. She knows her dad is hiding her from someone. She quickly learns she is one of many genetically altered clones. They also have powers. The suspense was limited to the many secrets. Truly, this is all this volume is about.
Lexi's dad keeps secret from her that she is a clone, which she quickly discovers. Jack keeps secret from her that he is a clone, which he quickly tells her. Kyle keeps secret from her that he is a clone, which he tells at the end. There are a few more secrets, which are revealed, but only amounts to who appears to be good and bad. So the story just slowly soldiers on. One of the big story lines was that they wanted her dad's journals. This became stupid when you realized that many of the "players" were actually aware of what would have been in them.
Then her dad hides her identity, but hides her at the school where they were keeping all the clones. This was ignorant, especially when you realize her clone was readily identifiable.
Then that ending was the height of stupidity. At what point would a non-relative have control over someone else's relatives? They were allowed to move to people and would be allowed to take one of them off of life support. Really? I yell fake. If you were guardian of your sister, how would an acquaintance be allowed to remove her from the hospital? Or how would an employer be allowed to remove your child from the hospital and take her off of life support? Besides, Seth knew they REALLY wanted his sister alive and well.
*******************************************
The writing was okay, but it became quickly just to long and repetitive. I was actually so bored that I stopped and read other books.
This is a contrived mess with excitement limited to secrets.
